Everyone needs a time to get away from their normal activities – to refresh, renew, revisit and learn new stuff. I attend a wonderful Avatar course (Wizards) that meets in Florida each winter where I can do just that. It has nothing to do with photography in any direct way. It is self-study, meditative time, explorative, and you do this with thousands of incredible people from all over the world. We are “one” for 13 days – it is a life changing experience and an incredibly wonderful time that I am very grateful for. Now I feel refreshed and ready to get back to work. This is a photograph of the first morning I woke up in Buena Vista, Florida a few weeks ago. I did not have my pro gear with me, but I did have my trusty little Nikon Coolpix P7000 which is a great little pocket camera. I walked down to look around the grounds of the condo where I stayed and experienced this wonderful sunrise. The air temperature was very cool and it interacted with the warm pond water creating a foggy sunrise and beautiful reflection. I enjoyed many more sunrises from the heated swimming […]
The White Rose by John Boyle O’Reilly The red rose whispers of passion, And the white rose breathes of love; O, the red rose is a falcon, And the white rose is a dove. But I send you a cream-white rosebud With a flush on its petal tips; For the love that is purest and sweetest Has a kiss of desire on the lips. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________ Traditionally the white rose is a symbol of innocence and purity. That is why it is often used in wedding bouquets to symbolize these traits in the bride.
As promised, I am back with another New England wedding at the Historic Publick House in Massachesetts. I photographed two weddings there this year and both were very different. One reception was in the tent and the other in the barn, and there are two outdoor venues for outdoor ceremonies. The big lawn on the hill and the garden lawn near the tent. I love photographing at this venue, the opportunities for photography are wonderful and the staff terrific. There are a variety of accommodations for overnight stays on site as well. Plus, the food is great! Check it out if you are looking for a unique place to get married. Here is Carolyn and Ryan’s wedding on the big lawn. It was a wild day- from fog, sun to rain! This was an August wedding. Don’t you just love her dress? This first image was taken in a lovely little house by the motel. It had wonderful natural light for portraits. Here is the Gazebo with beautiful landscaping for the ceremony. And, that lucky rain. Boy did it pour and really soaked the groom. But look at their faces… he doesn’t care and she is happy as could be to […]
Hi. I am a wedding photographer in Connecticut. I love this state and New England with all it variety. I was born and raised here, but have not lived here my whole life. After spending time in New York City and Rochester, NY for my college years; Santa Barbara, CA and Baton Rouge, LA working and starting a family, I am grateful to have moved back to Connecticut to live in its’ ‘Quiet Corner‘. I like the variety New England offers from its cities, beaches, mountains and of course the seasonal changes that make photography here so colorful. It is a great place to raise children, too! I have raised two of them. Anyway, I just wanted to share some of the wonderful moments in my 2012 season of weddings here in Connecticut and New England…. though my reach this year was only in Connecticut to Massachusetts but, I loved every minute! Here are some warm weather moments to enjoy. This first couple, Heather and Eric were married in July at the beautiful Alumni House on the UConn campus. It is a wonderful venue. This ceremony took place in the lovely courtyard. Here is Petra-Ann and Derrick whose wedding […]
Most people do not enjoy being photographed. I understand that, as I have felt what it feels like to be photographed and honestly, I did not like it either earlier in my life as a pianist. This is probably why I put myself “behind” the camera instead! But, it is very important to have a good photograph of yourself, especially if you are looking for a new job, own a business or have a web presence, plus countless other reasons. So, every couple of years I suggest that you update your head shot or profile image since styles change, you change and new content is always a good choice. Head shots in the studio are best as a good photographer can create lighting that highlights your best features. Choose an experienced photographer who will help you feel comfortable and confident in front of the camera. It should be a fun experience. So, here is an example of a head shot I did recently. Meet Charles Eaton, a long time Mansfield resident who is in his senior year at UConn’s Fine Arts Dept.. He is a very talented baritone and will be performing the role of Papageno in Mozart’s, “The […]
It has been a tough week. It has been hard to focus on anything other than the terrible tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary. So I decided to live in this moment and find some wonderful things in life that are happening right now. The first – these lost children and their teachers are inspiring us as a nation to change. Second, there are thousands of people on FB and twitter right now talking about their 26 random acts of kindness to strangers this week in honor of all those lost. Spreading kindness and compassion is healing and uplifting. Also, taking action, no matter how small, makes us feel like we can make a difference. I will be joining this action of random acts of kindness. How about you? Click here to find out more about it. Thank you to Ann Curry for starting this. And thank you for reading my blog.
I am announcing an opportunity for you to give a gift of photography for someone special this year. I will be participating in an event in Mansfield called, ‘Local First Mansfield‘, on Dec 9th from 12-4 pm at the Mansfield Community Center. Buy local! I will have gift certificates for portrait photography, which is a great value for giving at the holidays. Also, an unusual thing for me, I will have photographic prints of some of my favorite images, landscapes, skyscapes, and some scenes from my travels for sale, starting at $25 and up. I have not in recent years offered any prints for sale, so please do stop by and see what I have been up to besides photographing brides & grooms, high school seniors and families! This is something that I may not do again for awhile so don’t miss it. Other businesses in attendance will feature services such as: massage, specialty candies, handcrafted jewelry and more. Please take the time to stop by and check it out.. who knows, you may be able to finish up your shopping for the holidays. Here are the images that I will be offering or taking custom size orders […]
I have been roasting turkeys and hams, finding time to take walks and talk with friends. That is what I love about this holiday season. But also, it is the time to finish up album designs, print orders and things like that. I would like to share a few pages from my album layouts that I am creating. I like to keep the pages simple, elegant and create a layout that will stand the test of time. No gimmicks or trendy stuff. This is the first family heirloom, after all. Here are a couple of pages from the album of Carolyn and Ryan. Their wedding was at the Publick House in Sturbridge, MA. It was an amazing day, from morning fog, to hot sun and then a torrential downpour! But this lovely couple took it all in stride and loved every minute of their day! I did, too. Well, now it is back to work on the final touches for the next album that I am getting ready for print! Please leave me some blog love with a comment here. I would love to hear from you.
I love the light in November. There is a soft golden light that stretches into the late afternoon at this time of year. I had the pleasure of photographing Haley in this light recently. She is a young lady that I have known for years as her family also lives here in Mansfield CT. We captured some wonderful head shots of Haley in the local fields and other areas around our town. She currently is a student at the University of Connecticut. Here are some of our favorites from our session.
I had the pleasure to photograph last months production by the Hartford Opera Theater, of the Rape of Lucretia by Britten, at the Charter Oak Cultural Center in Hartford, CT. This was a fabulous production by a group of young Connecticut based musicians. Here are a few images from that production. Take note that this weekend on this Sunday, Nov. 18, at 7 pm, they will be performing six ten minute contemporary operas. Please check out this link for the ticket and performance information. These are truly talented young artists and directors, don’t miss it!
