Fall Portrait Sessions – Booking Now.

Fall Portrait Sessions are a favorite of mine.  Autumn seems to be arriving early this year so I would like to encourage you to get a jump on scheduling a portrait session time for yourself, significant other, family, pets, or all of the above!  The days are warm and the evenings cool – perfect weather for portraits here in Connecticut! There are limited weekend days so hurry and call me if that is your only time to schedule your Fall Portrait Sessions, or I am available on weekday afternoons after school or work as well. Things to think about: 1-Portraits make create holiday gifts for family.  Why not get a jump of the holiday shopping?  Portrait gifts make it easy to create a personal gift that can be shared with many family members.  Family portraits are priceless, especially to parents and grandparents.  Whether they are far away or living close by, grandparents love having your beautiful faces and smiles on their wall or mantle all year round.   2- Children grow up fast. (Although I realize, sometimes it feels really slow) Time flies and before you know it you may realize that you do not have a professional quality family portrait that is up to date.  Right NOW is a great time to […]

Hiring a Professional Photographer.

Hiring a professional photographer for your head shot is one of the best things you can do for your business. Just about everyone has a camera these days, and many people are taking their own photos.  That is great, but when it comes to  business portraits it should look professional.  Consider hiring a professional photographer.  Take a look on LinkedIn or Facebook, there is a range of quality, and some people don’t even have an image.  Why?  Probably because they don’t have one they love.  Do you? We all want to look our best and have a record of ourselves that shows who we really are.  This is not to say that candid images are not showing that… there is plenty of energy in those images as they capture us in moments and experiences that we treasure and want to remember.   Those are great for a personal FB page.  For a professional look, it needs to be a professional photograph. Example: Look at this UCONN Business Student above – we did a session last week because she is looking forward to finding work and is about to begin marketing herself when she graduates. She understands the value of […]

Portraits in Black and White

Why Portraits in Black and White as opposed to color? I have a soft spot for portraits in black and white.  If I want to have full control of where my viewers eyes go in a photograph – black and white takes away the distraction of color.  Black and white can can highlight only what you want the viewer to see through line, form, light and shadow.  I don’t shoot with film anymore but I do miss the experience of creating imagery in a dark room.  Seeing the image emerge in a tray of developer was nothing less than thrilling!  Last weekend I had the wonderful opportunity to mimic a ‘film look’ by photographing the band Autolatry, a heavy metal band that I have known for a long time.  They are relaunching themselves and needed some photos for their marketing.  Actually, I must confess –  the reason I know them is because 2 of them are my sons!  They have had 2 tours of the USA and have made three records.  If you like heavy music, check them out! David and Matt are my sons, they have been playing music together since middle school.  Dave plays lead guitar, writes the […]

New Baby in Town!

Let’s hear it for baby Miles and his parents Andy and Priya!  I photographed their wedding and now the family is growing.   Miles was 10 days old in these images and they were all created in natural light at my studio.  Here are some of my favorites from the day.  Let me know how you like them.

Senior Sessions Designed Just for YOU!

Kim Bova Photography went on a photo safari to kick off the Senior 2013 season a few weeks ago with our new Senior Ambassador from EO Smith High School.  His name is Pratik, an amazing talented computer wizard!  We had a great time finding the right backgrounds and “the light”.  We began in the studio and continued out on our safari through Mansfield Center and down to Willimantic with cool walls and natural backgrounds.  Each senior has a unique session designed just for them! Check out some of my favorite images of Pratik. If you are a High School Senior this year, do call Kim to schedule a complimentary meeting to talk about your senior portraits this year! If you are at EO Smith, do seek out Pratik and talk to him about his experience with our studio! Create unique, personal and fun images of who you are right now!  I look forward to meeting you. Feel free to leave a comment here on the blog!

Jazz is alive and well in Connecticut!

I had the honor of photographing Mike Casey, Saxophonist from Storrs, CT,  currently in the Jazz Studies program at the Jackie McLean Institute of Jazz in Hartford at the University of Hartford.  If you frequent Hartford’s Black Eyed Sally’s  you may  have heard this talented musician!   Oh, and if you are around Hartford on August 13th, his band is playing at Bushnell Park, Monday Night Jazz in Hartford at 6 pm.  Make sure you check out this award winning young jazz talent! We had a terrific day to shoot some cool images, in the studio and around town.  Here are some favorites!

Milestones: Families: Photography

As a Connecticut photographer, there is nothing more rewarding for me than documenting families in photographs that celebrate the important  milestones in their lives.  We all have them: new babies are born, first words to first steps;  transitions to school age right through to the High School Senior!  First job, car, and marriage are all huge milestones in our lives and it continues over and over, repeating through the generations.  How important is it for you to document these milestones in your life?  Your family is continually transitioning through and toward another milestone.  Don’t take any of them for granted as each one is a result of much energy, commitment and love.  Celebrate them all, document them through photographs; cherish and pass them down to the next generation to be proud of.  Think about documenting your family this season in professional photographs that you will treasure.  The time is now.  Think about a photograph that documents the stage or milestone your family is at RIGHT NOW.   Then, please call me!

Portrait of the Artist

I recently had the pleasure of photographing a wonderful painter, Blanche Serban, who lives here in Mansfield/Storrs, Connecticut.  I have gotten to know Blanche over the years because we both are volunteers for our town and serve on the Arts Advisory Committee.   Blanche has shown her work all over Connecticut, Rhode Island, Boston and Provence, France!  Her show at the Chabot Gallery in Providence, RI is closing today, but I believe she has a new show coming up, so check out her exhibition schedule on her website .   Her work is extraordinary.

The Necessary Headshot

Recently I photographed Kristin Schwab,  Associate Professor of Landscape Architecture at the University of Connecticut in Storrs.   My approach to headshots is to photograph each individual in an authentic way while highlighting their best features.  The eyes are especially important in order to connect them to their viewers as you see below.  That is why I find this image compelling –  you can see who she is! In this visual world we live in, the headshot has become very important.  Are you putting your best face forward?  If you would like to, give me a call today!
