Planning Your Senior Portrait Session. So make sure to start planning your senior portrait session at the end of your junior year in high school. You will have more time to be photographed in the summer when the weather is good and the days long. OR, like I did with Lexi here, in the fall of your senior year – BUT plan it early, there are only so many weekends in October and the weather is not always good. I ALWAYS make rain dates. Big Changes Ahead. Once a student graduates from High School, everything changes. It happened with my two sons. The changes personally and physically are enormous. In fact, every parent of my high school senior portrait clients say the same thing one year later, “We are so happy we had a senior portrait safari with you, our daughter has grown up so much since then!” Interview Photographers in you area. Find an experienced photographer and look at their work. Make a date to chat with them in person well in advance so you can get a session date that works for you. There are limited weekends for fall portrait dates at the peak of color. I will shoot […]
Attention Rising Seniors- Class of 2018! Believe it or not, it is time for you to schedule a Senior Portrait Session! You will be a senior soon so here is the scoop: Summer is the best time to be photographed! Here is why: High School Seniors have more time in summer than in autumn. Less school stress and more fun because autumn semester is very busy. We can photograph a wider range of ‘looks’ when it is warm outside. You may bring that cool varsity jacket, prom dress, boots, sandals, shorts and more! Most High School Seniors love how they look with a tan and so relaxed in the summer. You can even bring a buddy! There are discounts for Rising Seniors who sign up early for late June and July dates! Call today ! Contact me now for a complimentary meeting to discuss your High School Senior Portraits; we can set a date for summer if you decide I am the right photographer for you. These sessions fill up quickly! Come in and meet Kim- she will show you the cool stuff you can do with your photos. Here are a few shots from an EO Smith High School Senior that I photographed last year. Meet Ryan, a football star and great kid all around! We […]
Great portrait locations. Great portrait locations are everywhere, depending on what kind of portraits you are creating and what your are looking for. Light rules. If the light is awful, find another location. Every town or city has great portrait locations, it is just a matter of finding places that provide backgrounds that are not too busy and don’t overwhelm the subject(s) and you need to know the time of day when the light will be perfect. High noon is not great, ends of days are. (note: I have photographed many noontime weddings, where I use flash, or decide to blow out backgrounds if I have to to capture good portraits or action at high noon. This article speaks to the ideal light for portraits only) This example above was literally a pretty bush by the side of the road! I loved the colors against her neutral clothing, and the woods behind her were not distracting. The most important thing was that the sky was wide open (no big trees) at an angle slightly to the side and in front of her so I could use it to light her face. It was late afternoon warm light with the sun backlighting the trees behind her […]
I love the light in November. There is a soft golden light that stretches into the late afternoon at this time of year. I had the pleasure of photographing Haley in this light recently. She is a young lady that I have known for years as her family also lives here in Mansfield CT. We captured some wonderful head shots of Haley in the local fields and other areas around our town. She currently is a student at the University of Connecticut. Here are some of our favorites from our session.
I had the pleasure of spending an hour with a beautiful High School Senior named Hannah. She is a fun-loving person, an expert baker, a leader at her school and has the cutest little dog named Luna. What a fun time we had! Here are a few of our favorite images. Thank you, Hannah for a really fun session.
Kim Bova Photography went on a photo safari to kick off the Senior 2013 season a few weeks ago with our new Senior Ambassador from EO Smith High School. His name is Pratik, an amazing talented computer wizard! We had a great time finding the right backgrounds and “the light”. We began in the studio and continued out on our safari through Mansfield Center and down to Willimantic with cool walls and natural backgrounds. Each senior has a unique session designed just for them! Check out some of my favorite images of Pratik. If you are a High School Senior this year, do call Kim to schedule a complimentary meeting to talk about your senior portraits this year! If you are at EO Smith, do seek out Pratik and talk to him about his experience with our studio! Create unique, personal and fun images of who you are right now! I look forward to meeting you. Feel free to leave a comment here on the blog!
Well, I don’t want to play favorites.. but there are exceptions! I felt the same way when my older son Dave was a HS Senior and it is no different now with my son Matt who just graduated earlier this week from E.O. Smith High School in Storrs, CT. This was one of my favorite sessions – we did a Senior Safari that was a blast! Here are some of my favorites from the day. I hope you enjoy them. I have posted a few others on my facebook page, so just click the link below to “Like” my page and see more! Thanks for checking out my blog.. Please leave a comment. Thanks.
Congratulations to another one of my amazing high school seniors of 2012 – Bridget. She is a lover of animals, soccer and fun! We had a great senior portrait safari right in her own backyard. Full of goats, dogs, cats and llamas, the yard was perfect for showing Bridget as she is right now! Thanks for a great session and good luck as you move forward toward a career in nursing.
I am happy to continue photographing my awesome 2012 high school seniors here in Connecticut. I love this part of my job because I meet the most amazing young people. Congratulations to Lyle, from South Windsor High, this is one big accomplishment with many more to come I am sure! Lyle was a rock star during his session and I want to share some of his images with you. And with his awesome car! Good luck to you at college next year, Lyle!
