Wedding Color Trends for 2014!

COLORS! Wedding Trends for this year, 2014 are among my favorites!  This year the popular wedding colors include blues of all kinds, deep purples mixed with warmer tones – from red, orange to pinks.  So far, some of my 2014 brides are incorporating  orange and reds for the fall; shades of green and ivory for spring; and cool blue-violet mixed with whites for summer!  I love those pastels when it is blazing hot! I think color choices set a mood and tone for any event.  If you are a dramatic personality – hot colors may be your thing.  Romantic and understated, pastels and lace may be perfect! I think it actually depends on who you are, what you love and what time of year you decide to get married. What colors have you picked for your wedding day and why did you choose them?  Please share by leaving a comment! Rachel & Ben’s West Hartford Wedding.

Rachel & Ben’s West Hartford wedding was a blast, not only for me as the photographer, but for everyone who attended.  Rachel and Ben were married on a beautiful day this past September.  When they told me that they were having a traditional Orthodox Jewish wedding, I was thrilled!  The traditions are so rich and beautiful and I was very excited to photograph it for them.  The weather was brutally hot and humid, but we had a wonderful air conditioned Temple to celebrate in. Rachel and Ben, with the help of the amazing congregation at the Beth David Synagogue in West Hartford, CT, created a lovely day with family and friends in attendance from near and far.  The whole feel of the day was one of warmth, love and happiness.  Once the dancing and entertainment began – was wild and fun! I met Rachel, a very talented opera singer and teacher, through the photographic work I do for the Hartford Opera Theater at the Charter Oak Cultural Center in Hartford, CT.  Rachel and Ben (a lawyer in Hartford) moved here a few years ago.  They love the congregation at Temple Beth David so much that they decided to get married […]

Fun CT Engagement Sessions!

This is what I believe: -That every engaged couple wants beautiful images of themselves to mark this special time in their lives, which will enable them to feel comfortable being photographed on their wedding day. -Every person deserves to have beautiful photographs of themselves that reflect who they are now, so that future generations can connect to their family history in years to come. If you feel this way, welcome! My job as a ‘family historian’ begins with weddings.  Yes, I am a wedding photographer in CT who cares about the importance of family history. A fun way to invite wedding clients into my studio is the engagement session.  Engagement sessions are fun and helpful especially if you can do it with your chosen wedding photographer.  I will tell you why- You and your wedding photographer, the person you will be spending a great deal of time with before, on and after your wedding day, will make it their mission to capture you and your partner as you are naturally and find out what your concerns are regarding how you look in photos. Do you suffer from photo trauma?  This kind of session before the wedding day can cure this!  Your […]

Wedding Tips for Interviewing a Photographer.

Hello!  I have been meeting with many brides for the 2014 Wedding Season lately, and I wanted to share some things with you if you are looking for a photographer for your CT wedding.  It is important that your research and interviews go smoothly and that you find the ‘right for you’ vendors for your wedding day. 1) Prioritize what is super important to you first.  Is it the dress or flowers?   The venue or food?  Or is it the photography?  Let’s assume you are making the venue and the photography a major priority and that they are the most important things to find first.  This seems to be the case with a majority of my brides and grooms. (note: most of my brides contract a venue and date first, but I have many brides who CALL ME first and ask me when I am available.  I love that!) So, once you have a date set, I would suggest that you start looking for a professional photographer.  Why professional?  I have spoken to many unhappy couples who did not hire a professional in order to save money and they were very sorry later.  I won’t go in to the many […]

CT Cathedral Wedding: Beth & Alan

There is nothing quite like the feeling I get when I walk into a large cathedral, even in Connecticut.  It could be anywhere in the world and it definitely takes my breath away.  Beth and Alan planned an extraordinary wedding here in CT at the end of September and their ceremony took place in the beautiful Basilica of the Immaculate Conception in Downtown Waterbury, CT.  It is an Italian renaissance design after the Basilica of Saint Mary Major in Rome, (cool link, check it out!) is an extraordinary place to be married and I loved photographing it.  While inside, you could pretend you were in Italy for an hour! Now, if you want to get married in a cathedral, you may want to get a dress that fits the church.  Beth wore the perfect dress and ‘cathedral’ veil for this venue!  I just love the long flowy dress and veil. They planned a joyous day – Alan’s family came all the way from Ireland and the two families met a few days prior to the wedding for the first time!  The reception was held at the Heritage Hotel in Southbury, CT and their Stone Garden was perfect for formal photos […]

Connecticut Country & City Wedding

I had the honor of photographing the marriage of Candy and Bob this past July – with family and close friends standing by as they joined their lives together.  The ceremony took place in a tiny church in Hebron, CT which is located southeast of Hartford in the beautiful rolling hills and farmlands of this cool little state.  There were big beautiful bouquets of summer flowers; pretty pots with ribbons lining the pews and lovely bouquets and boutonniers.  After the ceremony & photos in the garden, we proceeded to downtown Hartford  for the party at the fantastic restaurant ‘Firebox‘ that specializes in ‘Farm to Table’ foods.  (A must visit if you have not already experienced this place.) It was a fine mix of sophistication and down to earth rustic which made a unique, fun and beautiful wedding day.  Congratulations to this beautiful couple! Take a peek at what the day was like and please leave your comments below!  Thank you for visiting my blog. Dress from Mariella’s in Rocky Hill, CT/Food & Flowers by FireBox, Hartford, CT

Storrs CT Wedding and Garden Reception: Lily & Joe

Just catching up on my blog, I am a little behind.  So,  starting with this lovely July wedding…. I first met Lily at her place of work, as her boss employed me to create head shots on site for the staff.  Lily mentioned that she was looking for a wedding photographer so I gave her my card.  Subsequently, she did hire me, and when I finally met with both Lily and Joe for their engagement session, I instantly knew this was a divine match!  They were made for each other.  Have you ever met a couple while in their presence you could just feel the love between them?  Well, there it was! So, on July 20,  Lily and Joe promised their lives to each other at the beautiful Storrs Congregational Church on the UCONN Campus.   It was during that brutal heat wave we had –  but Joe and Lily looked cool and collected all day long!  Happy to be together and surrounded by their amazing families. The reception was at Lily’s parents house near by, a beautiful spot in the woods with garden, pool, barn and a big tent in case of rain.  Well, they had everything that day – […]

Wedding on the Shore

I had the honor to photograph this beautiful couple at the New England shore yesterday. The weather cleared enough to take advantage of the beauty of Little Compton, Rhode Island. It was a small intimate gathering at a house on the water, a sit down dinner was prepared for after the ceremony and photographs.  It was a lovely day all around!  Congratulations to Kristen and Dan. Here are some favorite images from the day.

Engagement Session in Boston Garden

I had the pleasure of photographing Beth and Alan in Boston Garden.  What a day it was… a little chillier than expected but the light, tulips and flowering trees made for a wonderful backdrop.  We had to dodge the crowds, but otherwise it was a glorious day.  We are all looking forward to their September wedding in Connecticut.  Here are a few favorites of the day.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                             […]

Tips for Great Wedding Photos _ Part 2

I am back with some tips to help you make your wedding day photography go smoothly so you can capture everything you would like.  In the last post I spoke about the early planning stages – the venue and time of day for good lighting to help you look good in your photos.  Next, let us talk about time-lines. TIME-LINES are very important for your images because you need to allow enough time for your photographer to help you create the images that you really want.  If the details of your dress, rings, bouquets etc are important to you, allow at least 1-2 hours before the ceremony starts to have yourself and your details ready to be photographed, along with your brides maids, mom and any other family or friends that will be with you in your ready room.   If your brides maids and mother can plan on being dressed around this time so that everyone looks great in the photographs. Allowing time to photograph your father and/or your groom in a “first look” is possible before the ceremony.  If you would like this, allow the time for it.  This should be done early or off site so that your […]
