I have recently begun doing dog portraits. I find that my clients love their dogs and usually include them with the family portrait. But how special to do a portrait of the dog alone. Do you have a beloved pet that is part of your family? I grew up with cats, turtles, goldfish, and a parakeet named Ricky. When my two boys were very young we got a dog named Roxy – a standard poodle – who changed all of our lives. Really. Here are just a few of the ways she did this: She taught my boys not to fight but to make peace with each other and she would bark in their faces until they stopped; and to know the joy of taking care and being responsible for another being who depends on you. She taught me how to be a pack leader, firm and loving. She taught us greater awareness of unconditional love and devotion in action. She would wait by the window or door until we returned home. She offered her protection to us if she felt we were in danger, plus many more gifts of love. Roxy was with us for close to 11 years. […]
Congratulations to those couples who are newly engaged and planning your 2014-15 weddings! I have been meeting with many couples over the last month discussing their ideas about venues and details as they plan their weddings. Showing my albums and seeing the wheels turn as they look at my photographs, I decided it would be cool to share these ideas that my own clients created with everyone who drops by my blog as it could be helpful to others. In this post I will concentrate on a favorite of mine – ‘Black and White’ Weddings. Elegant, clean and appropriate for any time of the year. Thank you to my wonderful couple, Nicole and Michael for creating a beautiful day. One of my favorite venues for photographing – the grounds of the Hill-Stead Museum in Farmington, CT. Below you will see we photographed the formal portraits there. Black & White just pops in that setting and the garden colors were perfect with Mom’s beautiful dress. Be aware that there are fees and restrictions, but worth every penny, and please know that the fees help keep this very special place in tip top shape – so do your part and plan […]
I do have the best job in the world. I love serving my clients and thinking up cool ways to create something really special for each couple on their wedding day. There are many wedding locations in CT where I love to work. One of these is Amarante’s Seacliff in New Haven. Let me tell you a little about why I enjoy this place so much. #1: Grace and the whole team at Amarante’s treat their clients and vendors like family. (I am a preferred vendor there so I know!) They really care about your wedding day.. and they work with you as if you ARE a member of their own family. This is for real and not something you find anywhere. Trust me. #2: The food is awesome. I love to eat great food and when I photograph weddings I get very hungry so, it is always a pleasure to eat their fine food. Amarante’s does an awesome job at their Client Tasting events twice a year, too! #3: The service is wonderful. I have NEVER I experienced a hold up in the meal coming out or a glitch in the time-line that makes the guests fidgity wondering when […]
Everyone needs a break and I am so grateful for holidays. The fall has been hectic and fun, work has been really exciting.. but it takes a toll on this CT Wedding photographer! By this time of year I am ready for a break! As I celebrated Thanksgiving with my amazing family, I came to appreciate what ‘down time’ means to me. If we keep pushing the limits and become focused on the job constantly, there is no time for perspective shifts, or the time for resting the mind from its busy work. Cooking for others and engaging in another creative process can free the mind, relax it and allow new ideas to flow in. I cooked like crazy…which was really fun because I only cook like this once a year! A turkey AND a ham.. lots of accompaniments and desserts; visited with my family; spoke on the phone with far away relatives and friends, shared experiences and stories, reminisced and laughed a lot! It was a refreshing break from my usual routine – AND I had a great time. Then earlier today, when I sat down to go over some layouts and designs for client albums that I had […]
I had the honor of photographing the marriage of Candy and Bob this past July – with family and close friends standing by as they joined their lives together. The ceremony took place in a tiny church in Hebron, CT which is located southeast of Hartford in the beautiful rolling hills and farmlands of this cool little state. There were big beautiful bouquets of summer flowers; pretty pots with ribbons lining the pews and lovely bouquets and boutonniers. After the ceremony & photos in the garden, we proceeded to downtown Hartford for the party at the fantastic restaurant ‘Firebox‘ that specializes in ‘Farm to Table’ foods. (A must visit if you have not already experienced this place.) It was a fine mix of sophistication and down to earth rustic which made a unique, fun and beautiful wedding day. Congratulations to this beautiful couple! Take a peek at what the day was like and please leave your comments below! Thank you for visiting my blog. My challenge this summer has been the weather. The rains have come heavy and hard and it has made me stretch in many ways. When it is pouring, photographing outdoors is impossible – so you have to make it work somehow. My engagement session with Lily and Joe turned out great, but on my drive to their home I was not sure what I would do. The sky was clear and sunny when I left my studio. The forecast called for scattered thunder showers but I was optimistic. Five minutes away from their home I saw a sight that made my heart sink. The highway was up high so I could see the hills ahead where Lily and Joe’s neighborhood was. A huge black cloud was hanging low and letting loose with a downpour…. it was actually quite beautiful… but I feared it was where I was headed. I was right. It was pouring right over their neighborhood! We ended up sitting and chatting for awhile, which was fun. Then we took a few images in the house, and this first one is my favorite. They had a pretty living room window, so I silhouetted them together in front of […]
I spent a lovely evening with Rachel and Mario at Chamard Vineyards in Clinton, CT. It was a great break from the rain and the heat as the cool breezes at the shore were glorious. Mario works there so I had a grand tour of the whole place – including the wine cellar! Check it out if you have not… the smells from the kitchen were yummy and they grow their own herbs and veggies, too. After the Chamard ‘experience’ we went down to the beach at Hammonasset for the sunset. It was a great time and I cannot wait to photograph their wedding in August at the Guilford Yacht Club. I hope you enjoy these photos!
Let’s hear it for baby Miles and his parents Andy and Priya! I photographed their wedding and now the family is growing. Miles was 10 days old in these images and they were all created in natural light at my studio. Here are some of my favorites from the day. Let me know how you like them.
How can you be sure YOU will have a great time at your wedding reception? The best way is to hire a good team. A good party takes experience and skill to pull off. A venue with experienced managers and a great band or DJ is key. As a photographer, I work closely that day with the reception manager and/or DJ. Make sure who you choose is experienced at weddings, as there is much going on. This person is in charge of the timing of the entrances, dances and events of all kinds during the reception. Your DJ or band leader must know how to throw a great party! I have witnessed countless receptions where the DJ or bandleader takes charge of the room and creates a great time. One person I have loved working with is Matty B who is a one man live band and DJ. He is an exceptional wedding pro and throws a great party, plays sax, guitar and sings beautifully, as well. He can suggest what songs to play that will make your party rock, will play your music, and knows how to handle all the events of the day. Plus he works with […]
