Maternity Photography I love it when my wedding clients call and ask about Maternity Photography. I treat these sessions like a regular portrait session, except that I am more inclined to summon up some “fashion designer wanna be skills” to create something special like in this image below. I created this dress on the spot by wrapping my subject in material I keep around to create a dreamy dress for her. Meet Petra, one of my former wedding clients. Petra and husband Derrick are expecting in a couple of weeks! Isn’t Petra a beautiful mother to be? I could not wait to share it with you. Please feel free to leave your comments here, I would love to know what you think, too.

HIGH SCHOOL SENIOR PORTRAIT IDEAS _ FOR HOT SUMMER Sessions. High School Senior Portraits usually happen in the summer after JUNIOR year. It can be really hot and this Senior above from Ellington High School in Ellington, CT really had the hottest day of all. Allie is a wonderful young lady that I had the honor of spending a couple of hours with on our senior safari session. She looks as cool as can be, even in her favorite boots. We kept to the shade of the beautiful Library in town and we did some head shots in my studio. Allie is an aspiring writer and also interested in law. What a powerhouse she will be! I can see it in her already can’t you? Take a look and if you are a High School Junior (Rising Senior) check out my Senior Portrait page and come in for a complimentary meeting to discuss your senior portrait options for next summer, or apply to be a Senior Model with perks right now! Hi Everyone! Thanks for checking my blog. It is January and it is pretty cold out there now. The last couple of months were great for shooting natural light portraits out of doors. Now, it is really too cold… but would love to do some more snow portraits if anyone is game!
This engagement session in the snow with Rachel and Rusty was a blast. Any time of year is great for engagement sessions, but the snow is a lovely added element. It is reflective on faces and simplifies the landscape in the backgrounds. Rachel and Rusty will be married next summer here in CT, but we had to work around their semester schedule as they live across the country in California! The only time we had for their engagement session was Thanksgiving weekend and what a beautiful weekend it was. We had a light and pretty snow on the ground so Rachel wore gloves and a matching scarf which I love in portraits as they can add color and frame the face nicely. All in all it was a lovely afternoon, with the soft light of winter on their beautiful faces. Two of their favorite images will go on their ‘Save the Date’ cards. Thank you Rachel and Rusty for a great time. I am looking forward to their August wedding here in Connecticut at The Pavilion on Crystal Lake in Middletown next summer. Here are some favorite images from this engagement session! If you are newly […]
What happens when a professional photographer attempts to create a family portrait of her own family? Each year I struggle with creating my own family portrait. First, I have to remember to do it because I get busy this time of year photographing other families on Thanksgiving weekend. Second, I have to round up my family, put the camera on a tripod and use the trusty self-timer, which means I run like mad to get into the photo with the rest of the family. It takes time, and also, the expressions on our faces are ones of worry (will she make it back in time?) or exasperation (this is taking too long!) etc. etc. So this year, my sons roommate from college came to spend Thanksgiving with us. We asked him to actually hit the shutter release once I set it all up, while the camera stayed on the tripod. Here is what happened. If you would like to schedule an appointment with me for your family portrait, I promise not to let you slip on the ice, but we can have some fun!
The day was cool and crisp and the fall foliage was at peak color. Family and friends gathered together to celebrate Chelsea and Peter’s Wedding at The Waterview. It was an honor for me to photograph their special day. They will create a fantastic life together. This was a brilliantly fun and elegant affair, as is the norm for a wedding at The Waterview. The details reflected the autumn colors with hints of Halloween everywhere giving it the feel of an old fashioned masquerade party. The Waterview has two wonderful settings for outdoor wedding ceremonies. Set on Lake Zoar in Monroe, CT, the grounds are well manicured with patios and well landscaped gardens. A wonderful setting for the photography. Here are some favorite photos from the day to share with you. Congratulations Chelsea and Peter! Best wishes to you both. This wedding at The Waterview was my last wedding of 2014. What a wonderful way to finish the season. Thanks for stopping by the blog. Please leave a comment so I know you were here. 🙂 Vendor Highlights: Dress: www.dessy.com; Tuxes: Mens Warehouse; Flowers: Main Street Florist & Gifts, Ridgefield, CT; Hair: Pure Platinum Hair Salon in Oxford, CT; Nails: […]
Perseverance. Definition: steadfastness in doing something despite difficulty or delay in achieving success. It pays to practice perseverance and never give up on yourself. I learned that last week. The Connecticut Professional Photographers Association, which I am a member of, is an association of professional photographers who support each other in moving forward in skill and business. Print competition plays a large roll in this and I have entered many times, but have never received any awards. It is difficult, as each print is judged to the highest standards, plus, judged by other Master Photographers. With enough award winning prints, a pro photographer can work toward and achieve Master Photographer status. I gave up this summer on any chance that I could win any awards as I never placed in competition and the judges always found something ‘wrong’ with my work. I just gave up. I decided I would just stop worrying about obtaining Master Photographer. Really. I decided that I would not put any more attention on it and I would just shoot my best for my clients and stop stressing over this. And a funny thing happened. I started to have fun and ‘play’ behind the camera. Imagine […]
Today I am happy to share with you this recent Pomfret School Chapel Wedding at the Pomfret School of eastern Connecticut. Erin and Rob could not have had a more perfect day. It started out a little foggy but, as Erin’s father exclaimed after the ceremony, “The skies cleared as soon as they kissed!” The sun was bright and we had a beautiful, dry September day of celebration. Erin and Rob are two very special people. I met Erin a few years ago at a chamber of commerce meeting. She took my card then, and now many years later, she called when they decided to marry! I am thrilled that she did, as they planned a really fun and beautiful wedding and I had a chance to get to know them both a little more. One of her relatives had a Stanley Steamer car, so she arrived and departed in this cool old fashioned vehicle. The Pomfret School Chapel is a gorgeous place to be married. In fact, Erin’s parents were married there, too. I think that is pretty special. Erin and Rob included all her nieces and nephews as an integral part of the wedding party which made some […]
I had the honor of photographing Erin and Robert’s CT Engagement Session at Belltown Hill Orchards in Glastonbury last weekend. Since this beautiful couple lives right in the Orchard neighborhood, they arranged permission with the Orchard owners for us to photograph where no other people were. Plus, we were able to stay after the picking hours for the golden evening light and had the whole orchard to ourselves. How special is that?!? If you follow my blog, you may know how much I love photographing CT Engagement Sessions. Not only do we have beautiful landscapes in every corner of the state, but there is so much variety such as: farm country, cities, small quaint towns, beaches, and hilly trails and woods. Here are the 4 most important reasons why I love photographing CT Engagement Sessions: 1) Besides the fact that I have been a lifelong resident of this beautiful little state and I know many cool areas and beautiful spots for a CT Engagement Session, this is an important time for my couples and I to get to know each other better. I learn a lot about them from their session. For instance, I can see how self-conscious (or not) […]
