Congratulations to all my 2012 CT Seniors!

I am happy to continue photographing my awesome 2012 high school seniors here in Connecticut.  I love this part of my job because I meet the most amazing young people.  Congratulations to Lyle, from South Windsor High, this is one big accomplishment with many more to come I am sure!  Lyle was a rock star during his session and I want to share some of his images with you. And with his awesome car! Good luck to you at college next year, Lyle!

Milestones: Families: Photography

As a Connecticut photographer, there is nothing more rewarding for me than documenting families in photographs that celebrate the important  milestones in their lives.  We all have them: new babies are born, first words to first steps;  transitions to school age right through to the High School Senior!  First job, car, and marriage are all huge milestones in our lives and it continues over and over, repeating through the generations.  How important is it for you to document these milestones in your life?  Your family is continually transitioning through and toward another milestone.  Don’t take any of them for granted as each one is a result of much energy, commitment and love.  Celebrate them all, document them through photographs; cherish and pass them down to the next generation to be proud of.  Think about documenting your family this season in professional photographs that you will treasure.  The time is now.  Think about a photograph that documents the stage or milestone your family is at RIGHT NOW.   Then, please call me!

CT Engagement – Anna & Nayan

Thank you, Anna and Nayan for stealing time with me to create some photographs of you on your quick stop through Connecticut!  Travel is a part of this extraordinary couple’s lives who now live now in England.   We had the opportunity a couple of weeks ago to have an engagement session right here in New England! We found some beautiful spots among the dogwoods, barns and country roads…. Congratulations to you both on your wedding in September!  I am looking forward to telling your story in photographs.

Wedding Photography Tips for the Bride.

Hair and make-up.  Keep it simple.  This is not the time to try a brand new hairstyle.   Why not plan a hair and makeup ‘rehearsal’ day.  This way you can be sure it is what you want AND you will have a clear idea of HOW MUCH TIME IT WILL TAKE to create it.  Very often things take longer than expected and that leads to a stressful situation – running out of time for photos or being late for your ceremony or both!   With good planning and time management  things will go smoothly and your photographer will have plenty of time to capture images of you getting ready, plus beautiful portraits of you dressed and ready to go!  And last but not least, add at least 15 minutes to everything.  Build time in for yourself and your wedding party to avoid running late.

Tips for Your Wedding Photography!

As a wedding photographer in Connecticut, I am comfortable behind the camera, but a bride and groom may not be so comfortable as the subject on the other side.  That is why I highly recommend ENGAGEMENT SESSIONS before the wedding day if possible.  This gives you time to feel what it feels like to be the main photographic subject all day!  The more time you spend with your photographer, the more comfortable you will be in front of their camera.  This kind of pre-wedding session will also give you time to get to know your photographer and visa-versa: be yourselves – wacky, fun or a little crazy and there will be plenty of “moments” to capture the real you in photos you will cherish. Also, your photographer can help you learn to pose so you look great on this day AND ON  YOUR WEDDING DAY.  Posing is the not the big bad ugly that so many people think it is.  I pose people to look their very best.  Isn’t that what everyone wants – to look great?  I also realize that it is important to look natural, too, there is no better place than an engagement session with your photographer […]

Spring in Connecticut is bursting out all over!

Here is a look at what is happening in my garden.  Bleeding hearts in full bloom.

Portrait of the Artist

I recently had the pleasure of photographing a wonderful painter, Blanche Serban, who lives here in Mansfield/Storrs, Connecticut.  I have gotten to know Blanche over the years because we both are volunteers for our town and serve on the Arts Advisory Committee.   Blanche has shown her work all over Connecticut, Rhode Island, Boston and Provence, France!  Her show at the Chabot Gallery in Providence, RI is closing today, but I believe she has a new show coming up, so check out her exhibition schedule on her website .   Her work is extraordinary.

CT Weddings: Stylish Details in your Photography

Many brides are looking for stylish, fun and helpful accessories and details for their wedding day.  Etsy weddings is one place to find such things.  One thing that I would recommend is a pretty hanger for your dress.  Most brides don’t think about this, but in the photos it can make a big difference!  Notice the dress on a clear plastic hanger (below)… this is better than the paper covered hangers from the cleaners, but a pretty silk padded one may have looked nicer.  Or a wooden one with a ribbon or two?   The dress hanging on a light colored armoire,  at Amarante’s Seacliff, as opposed to a darker surface, helps to hide the hanger or at least make it less noticed.
