I stepped into a field of Spring Flowers in West Hartford, CT at the Elizabeth Park Greenhouse Flower show in March. I was overcome and intoxicated by the scent, the colors and the beauty. This is what I saw. Enjoy. The intention behind these photographs of Spring Flowers, were to capture images that reflected the feeling I had upon entering the Elizabeth Park Greenhouse in West Hartford a couple of weeks ago in March. I guess it was a long winter. Viewing the wash of color and intense aroma of these tulips took my breath away. I just stood there breathing in and looking at the array of colors and the variety in size and shape. Once I returned to earth, I decided a macro lens would give me the ‘feeling’ of dreamy, intoxication that I experienced being in the presence of these gorgeous blooms. Therefore, I used a very shallow field of focus, that is, a large aperture on the camera settings like f2-f4. I wanted a wisp of focus, no details needed, but just enough to be drawn in my the lure of these beauties. If you love spring flowers, make sure you put it in […]
I had the honor of photographing Tracey and Chris’s wedding in Westbrook, CT. It was a perfect June day to be on the Long Island Sound. The Elks Lodge in Westbrook was a wonderful place for a small and intimate wedding of family and friends. Tracey and Chris were supported by their two amazing sons, close family and wonderful friends. Congratulations to this couple! Here are a few photos from the day.
A Guilford Yacht Club wedding is always wedding in Connecticut that I look forward to! The setting is fantastic with views of the Long Island Sound, pretty sailboats next door, and a beautiful green lawn for an outdoor ceremony. This venue is perfect for the photography especially when the weather is cooperating like on this day. Cassie and Steve’s wedding last October is a perfect example of luck when it comes to the weather. Leading up to that day, it was a little nerve wracking but, that morning the sky cleared and we could not have asked for a better day. Their guests were able to ramble on lawn and the wedding party and their families were able to have portraits done there before the ceremony began. The Venue. Inside the Guilford Yacht Club there are many benefits to note for a wedding celebration. I love the main dining room’s open space with a four sided balcony above. It provides great views of the action below, plus, the outdoor balcony that looks out to the Long Island Sound is great for group photos of the Bride and Groom and all their guests. The entryway is nice for greeting guests and there is plenty of room upstairs for the bridal party to get ready on site. A plus for everyone with […]
I had the honor of photographing Crystal and Zack’s Wedding a few weeks ago. It was a fantastic sunny and warm day, perfect for a Connecticut Farm Wedding! The day was full of family and close friends, yet an intimate and fun event that everyone enjoyed. The farm setting was unique and lovely, even the bride’s horse was right at home. The kids had a blast running free all day and I think the adults had a really good time, too. A unique location like this has its challenges photographically because of the time of day, 12 noon, and open fields have no shade. It really is the most difficult light of the day, however, I did not worry and found ways to make it work. You see, the sun directly overhead makes it difficult to make light contour the face and body. No light in the eyes, and people tend to squint more. I had to make sure I used backlight and sidelight so everyone would look their best. The shade of the big old tree, nature’s alter/church, was perfect and a nice backdrop for the ceremony. There was an orchard where we did some photos down by the barn where we had darker […]
Amarante’s Sea Cliff Weddings are among my favorites to photograph. Located in New Haven, Connecticut on the shoreline, it is a romantic, fun place to celebrate. I have found that the staff treat every bride, groom and their families as if they were their own! Peter Garceau and his staff do an amazing job. On June 11th, Amarante’s Sea Cliff was at its best. It had rained all morning, however, just in time for setting up chairs out on the lawn, the clouds parted and the day that Stephanie and Adam had dreamed of became a reality. They could not have asked for more perfect timing. I met the bride and her girls in the beautifully decorated dressing room upstairs. There was champagne, laughter and anticipation. Stephanie’s father stopped by as soon as she was in her gown and we caught a beautiful moment as he saw her for the first time as a gorgeous bride! Here are some highlights from Stephanie and Adam’s special day.
Congratulations, you just got engaged and now what? This is an exciting time and – your life just changed. Now, that you are engaged, it is time to plan. Here is the first thing to figure out – your budget. It will determine where and when are you will get married. Eloping? Big wedding or small wedding? On the beach, mountain top, at the rose garden, big venue or small? What month, season or time of day? Now once you know what you can afford, have fun with it! Get creative and remember to get help if you need it. Ask friends who have just gone through this. Talk to as some wedding vendors or planners in your area, the people who do this all year long for advice. Next, once you have found a venue and set a date, start looking for your photographer. We photographers book up well in advance, from 6 months to a year or more before a wedding date. So start looking at photographer websites and look for style, price, AND last but not least, experience. Call and speak with the photographer and ask them how long they have been doing this, and other questions that you want answered. […]
Today I am happy to share with you this recent Pomfret School Chapel Wedding at the Pomfret School of eastern Connecticut. Erin and Rob could not have had a more perfect day. It started out a little foggy but, as Erin’s father exclaimed after the ceremony, “The skies cleared as soon as they kissed!” The sun was bright and we had a beautiful, dry September day of celebration. Erin and Rob are two very special people. I met Erin a few years ago at a chamber of commerce meeting. She took my card then, and now many years later, she called when they decided to marry! I am thrilled that she did, as they planned a really fun and beautiful wedding and I had a chance to get to know them both a little more. One of her relatives had a Stanley Steamer car, so she arrived and departed in this cool old fashioned vehicle. The Pomfret School Chapel is a gorgeous place to be married. In fact, Erin’s parents were married there, too. I think that is pretty special. Erin and Rob included all her nieces and nephews as an integral part of the wedding party which made some […]
COLORS! Wedding Trends for this year, 2014 are among my favorites! This year the popular wedding colors include blues of all kinds, deep purples mixed with warmer tones – from red, orange to pinks. So far, some of my 2014 brides are incorporating orange and reds for the fall; shades of green and ivory for spring; and cool blue-violet mixed with whites for summer! I love those pastels when it is blazing hot! I think color choices set a mood and tone for any event. If you are a dramatic personality – hot colors may be your thing. Romantic and understated, pastels and lace may be perfect! I think it actually depends on who you are, what you love and what time of year you decide to get married. What colors have you picked for your wedding day and why did you choose them? Please share by leaving a comment! I had the honor to photograph this beautiful couple at the New England shore yesterday. The weather cleared enough to take advantage of the beauty of Little Compton, Rhode Island. It was a small intimate gathering at a house on the water, a sit down dinner was prepared for after the ceremony and photographs. It was a lovely day all around! Congratulations to Kristen and Dan. Here are some favorite images from the day.
The White Rose by John Boyle O’Reilly The red rose whispers of passion, And the white rose breathes of love; O, the red rose is a falcon, And the white rose is a dove. But I send you a cream-white rosebud With a flush on its petal tips; For the love that is purest and sweetest Has a kiss of desire on the lips. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________ Traditionally the white rose is a symbol of innocence and purity. That is why it is often used in wedding bouquets to symbolize these traits in the bride.
